The SPDBasketball Player Development Program (PDP) is a year-round skill development program designed to help players maintain a balance between their team experiences, i.e. school, rec, aau, etc, and their personal skill development.
Unlike team experiences in which coach's decisions are based on winning, the PDP provides a space where the coaching decisions are based on the player's individual growth.
What sets this program apart from other skills training in the DMV is the exceptionally high level of instruction, the flexible nature of the schedule, opportunity to play pickup games and the extremely reasonable cost.
Except on rare occasions, all coaching is provided by Coach Burke, who is a former Division I Head Coach with over 20 years of youth coaching experience.
The PDP is intended for:
There are currently over 100 athletes participating in the PDP.
Some of the area schools where PDP Athletes play or have played are:
BCC HS / Berman / Blair HS / CESJDS MS & HS / DeMatha HS / Einstein HS / Gaithersburg HS / Gonzaga HS / Holy Cross HS / Mater Dei MS / Milton / Newport Mill MS / Sandy Spring Friends School MS & HS / Sidwell Friends School / Siena School / Silver Spring International MS / Sligo MS / St. Andrew’s / St. Bernadette’s / St. John’s the Evangelist / St. John’s HS (SJC) / Walter Johnson HS / Wheaton HS / Whitman HS /
All athletes participate in at least one Weekly Skills Workout per week with the option to attend as many as three workouts per week. In addition, all active members of the Player Development Program have the option to attend grade-appropriate Pickup Games twice per week for free.

Weekly Skills Workouts are small group workouts of no more than 12 athletes (2 per basket). These workouts largely focus on individual fundamentals - shooting, passing & dribbling as well as footwork, ball handling, rebounding, timing, spacing, positioning, communication and decision making.
Initially players are grouped by grade. The ES workouts are grades 3-5, MS workouts are grades 6-8 and HS workouts are grades 9-12.
Because the vocabulary, drills and concepts are consistent across all workouts and age groups, players are easily able to attend a different practice if a conflict with their regular practice time arises periodically or if it is beneficial for their individual development.
Pickup Games provide a supervised opportunity for players to apply what they have learned during their player development workouts in a competitive game setting. Players pick teams and call their own fouls. Winning matters - winners stay on and losers wait on the sideline for the next game. This is how the greats of the game learned to play. This "old school" approach to learning the game teaches so much more than just basketball.
Monthly Payment Options:
$135: One Player Development Workout per week*
$225: Two Player Development Workouts per weekly*
$270: Three Player Development Workouts per week*
*Includes grade appropriate Pickup Games twice per week
Please note that the PDP is a year round training program. Despite payment being month to month there is an expectation that players will participate on an ongoing basis. If your athlete must take a break from the PDP or reduce their number of workouts per week, it is required that you provide at least a one month notice so the vacated spot can be filled in a timely manner. An athlete can switch to a different regularly scheduled workout at any time as long as space is available in the new workout they would like to attend.
