The PDP is designed as a year round training program. Once a player signs up for a workout spot, it is understood that the player will attend that workout on an ongoing basis. If your athlete must take a break from the PDP or reduce their number of workouts per week, it is required that notice be given prior to the first day of your final month of participation, e.g. if you want September to be your last month you will provide notice no later than the last day of August. Injury does not exempt a family from this policy. (See Injury below)
It is expected that your athlete will put in time on a daily basis, outside of their weekly PDP workout(s) or any team practices, to improve their individual skills, i.e. footwork, ball handling, dribbling, shooting form, passing technique and or conditioning. Players owe this to themselves as well as the other athletes in their workout(s). I am always happy to talk with players about what they should be doing on their own, but each player should start by using the drills we do regularly during PDP workouts to create their own daily personal workout.
The suggested DAILY inividual practice time is:
ES Athletes: 10-20 minutes per day
MS Athletes: 15-30 minutes per day
HS Athletes: 20-40 minutes per day
The key is doing it every day. 10 minutes every day is better than 20 every other day. The PDP is designed as a year round training program. When an athlete is injured, they may be limited in what they are allowed to do, e.g.running, cutting, catching, but they should still be using this time to improve. Coach Burke is happy to work with your athlete to create a personal workout in accordance with doctor's restrictions.
If on occasion your athlete must miss their regularly scheduled workout, they may attend a different workout as a makeup session. You must give Coach Burke a heads up prior to your athlete doing so and the makeup session should occur within 10 days prior to or 10 days after the missed session.
Your athlete should only be in the building if Coach Burke or another SPDBasketball coach is present. Please make sure a coach is present before leaving your athlete. If the door is locked and it is past the start time of your athlete's workout or pickup session, please text 202-330-7805.
The preferred form of communication is email, but please know the SPDBasketball@gmail.com account is usually only checked once per day. For any communication that requires a more timely response please text 202-330-7805. Thank you!
